How to Obtain Mississippi Death Certificates
By law, the state of Mississippi was not required to keep birth or death certificates until 1 November 1912. Birth and death records since that time have been kept by the Bureau of Vital Statistics. Marriage records from 1926–1938 and from 1942 on are also housed there. There is a statewide marriage index available, organized by name of groom, for the years prior to 1926.
For birth and death records from 1 November 1912 and marriage records from 1926–1938, and from 1941, write:
State Department of Health
For prior records, contact the clerk of the county in question.
